2024 March 31st John Coman Easter Sunday Sermon summary

John started his sermon with an illustration with four hollow eggs. These were opened and revealed a cross and nails in the first egg, symbolising His death. The second had a pair of dice, symbolising the soldiers gambling for his clothes. The third had a rock, symbolising the sealed tomb. The last egg was empty, symbolising the empty grave because HE IS RISEN..

The resurrection shows that the Word of God is true. Jesus can still say “I AM”

We are not religious (following rules and regulations to earn merit) but we have a relationship with THE LIVING GOD guaranteed by the resurrection of Jesus. Paul’s last word in 2 Tim 1:9-10 “Christ has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel”. This is a promised life from the foundation of time to all who would call upon the Name of Jesus.

In Acts 2 a “shaky man” Peter, empowered by the Holy Spirit, proclaimed that Jesus is alive Psalm 16, his death foreseen in Psalm 22 and the resurrection is described in Matt 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 20.

On the road to Emmaus, Jesus opened the Scriptures about Himself to the disciples. The life that we are offered comes out of HIS life. We are being shaped and moulded. We are buried with Him so that we can rise with Him Romans 6:4. Jesus prays for us Hebrews 7:25. Death is not the end but a doorway. John 11:25, Romans 4:25, Ephesians 2:8, John 3:16-17. Jesus has the keys Rev 1:12-18
